What is a parking ticket machine?
A parking ticket machine stands at the edge of a parking area and issues a ticket against payment. The ticket sits visibly behind the windscreen and shows the time paid for. Pay and display machine and parking ticket machine mean the same device.
The pay station in a multi-storey car park works differently. It collects on the way out rather than up front: you take a ticket on entry, pay at the station and pass the barrier with the validated ticket.
Both devices solve the same task. They differ in when payment happens and whether the site needs a barrier.
How does a parking ticket machine work?

Read the tariff
The device states what an hour costs, whether a free period applies and until when a fee is charged at all. Some machines have a button for very short stays. In German it is called the Brötchentaste, the bread-roll button, because it is meant for a quick errand, and it prints a free ticket for the first few minutes.

Choose the time and pay
You insert coins or pay by card. Newer devices ask for the number plate instead of printing a paper ticket.

The printed ticket goes visibly behind the windscreen. Without it, the stay counts as unpaid.

Paying later is not provided for. Anyone who overstays can no longer correct it at the machine.
What does a parking ticket machine cost?
There is no reliable flat figure. Price depends on build, payment methods and quantity. The more useful question is which items arise at all.
One-off: the device, a foundation, the power supply, the data connection and the signage for the site. Ongoing: maintenance, emptying and cash transport, paper rolls, card payment fees, repairs after vandalism.
Many overlook the largest item. A machine takes money but checks nothing. Without monitoring of your own it stays open how many vehicles stand there without a ticket – and that is exactly where the loss occurs.
Where the ticket machine gets in the way
The parker has to guess the duration in advance. Choose too little and there is a breach without noticing. Choose generously and you pay for time you never used. Topping up means interrupting the errand and walking back to the device.
On your side the effort continues even when nobody parks. Coins need emptying and transporting, paper rolls refilling, faults fixing. Outdoors, vandalism joins in: a broken-open machine paralyses payment for the whole site until somebody turns up.
The hardest point comes last. A machine accepts money but checks nothing. Whoever does not buy a ticket never appears in its accounts at all. Without monitoring of your own you therefore do not know what you are losing – you only see what came in.
Machine yes, paper ticket no
We do not abolish the machine. On many sites someone should be able to pay on the spot and, if need be, in cash, and that takes a device. What we abolish is the slip behind the windscreen.
With us the parker types the number plate into the device and pays for the time actually spent. The camera at the entrance recorded the arrival with a timestamp long before; the machine only settles up. Nothing has to be guessed any more.

Machine, app or online payment?

- Only if you want to take cash on site. Capture is handled by licence plate recognition at the entrances anyway; payment then runs by app or online after parking. If you want to keep the machine, we run the site with it too.
