When does access management make sense with licence-plate recognition alone, and when with a barrier?
That has to be assessed individually for each parking space.
Important factors are the available number of spaces, the user groups of those spaces, the location of the car park and its entry and exit options.
Do spaces need to be reserved for particular users? What about peak times for incoming and outgoing traffic? Might tailbacks affect public traffic?

For the parker one thing changes above all: no more stopping. No ticket on the way in, no machine, no barrier that has to open first.
In technical terms the method is called ANPR or LPR. Both describe the same technology: a camera reads the plate and turns it into text.
